Traveling for Business

Posted: November 06, 2018

According to the Global Business Travel Association, 503 million business trips were taken in 2016, which is up from 488 million the previous year. Many of those include solo business trips that can leave the traveler by themselves, in a foreign city, which can be uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. Here are some tips on how travelers can stay safe while traveling alone for business.

Research your destination and hotel. Most of the time travelers don’t have a say in what city they are traveling to or which hotel they are staying at so make sure to do your research before heading out on your trip to learn more about the area. Reading reviews online is a great way to get firsthand accounts of visitors’ experiences so you know what to expect or what to be aware of. It is also important to locate where the closest police station and hospital are in relation to your lodging in case of an emergency.

If you practice a martial art, Krav Maga is likely a fighting system you’ve heard of. Thanks to its rising popularity and increasing roster of celebrity practitioners, many people outside of the world of martial arts are starting to take interest in Krav Maga –– and even recognize it by name, if not by its principles. While Krav Maga is often lumped in with other martial arts, make no mistake: Krav Maga is neither a combat sport nor a martial art. It is a self-defense system built for survival.

“Art” Vs. “System”

There is no single definition of the term ‘martial art’ and this often leads to confusion. A martial art, for our purposes, is a codified system of physical movements meant for a competitive, combat, or combat-like activity. Often, especially in Eastern martial arts, there is a philosophical aspect to the various styles related to codes of honor or connections to the natural universe.
